The Ayetoro coastal community in Nigeria has long faced the devastating impacts of natural disasters, climate change, and rising sea levels—placing its built heritage at constant risk. Recent storms have destroyed key educational and cultural buildings, further threatening the community’s way of life. In response, we were engaged by a Nigerian NGO to support the preservation of local heritage and livelihoods through architectural intervention. Our proposal envisions a resilient community complex—comprising a school, church, hall, and accommodation—on a nearby plot of land. Rooted in regional vernacular design, the scheme features a series of elevated platforms to mitigate flood risks and ensure long-term sustainability.
